12 Songs: Splendor Solis
I am not a morning person. And the sudden jolt of PTSD I get every sunrise from Apple’s stock alarm tone makes things about ten times worse.
So lately - rather than be startled out of sleep by one of those hell-tones each morning - I’ve been setting Pink Floyd’s “Absolutely Curtains” as my wake up call (that slow-forming synth sunrise intro!) followed by a few miscellaneous tunes of increasing volume and energy. Six songs to set the tempo for the day, and six more to keep it steady.
Here’s a playlist in that vein, featuring music from:
Acetone. Your librarian’s favorite band. Among the finest purveyors of whisper-rock.
The Durutti Column. Maybe the single most featured band on the 12 Songs series thus far. And for good reason.
Sanford Clark. A semi-unknown country legend of with a proclivity for the weird.
Sonic’s Rendezvous Band. My favorite “supergroup” of all time. Members of The Stooges, MC5, The Rationals, and The Up.
