12 Songs: Pre-Surf Playlist
Fun fact: studies show that you surf 30 percent faster than your peers if you are a frequent Motörhead listener. Alright, that’s not an actual statistic, but it’s a well documented phenomena and consequently should be an unwritten law of some sort.
There’s a certain undeniable energy gained from a good set of white-knuckled, high octane rock and roll tunes that can’t be emulated by any of today’s mass-produced bubblegum rap, cookie-cutter electronica, or pseudo-country artists (throw a baritone voice with a southern accent on anything these days and I guess it’s country? I miss the outlaws).
With this in mind, we’ve compiled 40 minutes of maximum velocity rock and roll into a compact pre-surf sonic ritual of sorts, in the hopes that it might get you significantly more amped for your next session.
Highlights include the hypnotic swamp-punk assault of Australia’s Scientists, pissed French hardcore from Rixe, and a dash of thrash from German metal icons Sodom. Consider this playlist a healthy and much needed dose of easy evil in a surf community with an ever-softening core. Certified algorithm-free as always.—Jackson Todd
