12 Songs with Nolan Rapoza
Nolan Rapoza is one of those surfers who has lived a life on the cusp. Between the lines. Even where he’s from is sandwiched between beach towns — but doesn’t really have its own waves (anymore). One of the world’s busiest ports, but not a lot of waves. That hasn’t stopped Nolan from making himself a super scary draw on the Challenger Series.
Nolan recently signed on with one of our favorite brands AVVA and we’re psyched he’s going to be taking over our site a bit this week to show us his scene. Let’s kick it off with an absolute throwback LBC playlist.

“Growing up in Long Beach there is such a variety of music and artists that are rooted into the community. As a grom I remember my dad playing the Sublime tracks going down to surf Seal Beach or on a weekend getaway to San Diego.
My taste in music ranges from reggae to rap. Depending on what mood I am in. Lately I have been liking a little more laidback vibe. A couple years ago I loved getting super fired up and listening to hip hop to get me psyched to surf but it usually would set my expectations too high and be let down when I’m in the water (laughs). So lately the eggae vibe has got me to be more mellow in the water and flow with what I have at hand. But if I’m throwing a rashy on before a heat you best believe I’m playing “Murder was the case!”—Nolan
