It’s not the end of the world.

5'5" x 19 1/4...Century Episode 2: Old Guys Rule

It’s pretty easy to get wrapped up in retro mania these days. Social media traps us in nostalgia loops and it’s easy to think“the good old days” have come and gone and nothing exciting is happening in surfing. Well, maybe true, and with all the noise and average clips coming through, it’s harder and harder to connect to something. But leave it to Lost to fuse the past, present and future together through a twin fin.

In Episode 2 of their new series 5’5” x 19 1/4…Century — which moves along much like their older films, careening into and out of sections like a punk bank ripping through a show with no set list — Cory Lopez and Chris Ward take us back to to those first couple fishes before showing us they still got it set to a familiar D.I. tune. From there you get some news vibes from Crane (a modern day interpretation of Cory) and then a cameo by Taj Burrow before the credits roll and you get a father son section of Cory Lopez and his son Luke that will get you amping.

After the credits, the thing goes on and on and on and you end up in Mexico with Mason and Wardo…and then Nicaragua with Aaron Cormican…as you would expect because, well, it’s a Lost vid.

Fuck, these are fun. Let’s hear it for modern nostalgia. Get your fish out, go meet some others fishes this weekend.—Travis
