Inherent Bummer Live featuring Røbber and Memo PST
Well, that worked. Thanks to everyone who came out to the OC Tavern in San Clemente on Friday night, proving our theory that reckless music and mosh pits are alive and well and just needed some resuscitation. Also turns out San Clemente has a whole lot more going on than e-bikes, warm rinse kits and homeschoolers.
The night kicked off with a screening of IBTV — our own propaganda channel surfing experiment carefully curated by Jackson Todd — as drinks and mingling got going. The pre-game culminated with a screening of Beneath a Pear Tree — and its really impressive soundtrack and psycho Portuguese slabs ripped by Ryan Callinan. That was followed by Kolohe Andino’s Allen Hazardous Waste Collection Center before things really got going. The live music was the highlight of this extravaganza.
For a good two hours a pit swirled in the center of the room like a sweaty maelstrom of pent up youthful energy while Memo PST — playing only their second show — got things going with a tight and ripping set and our very own Jackson Todd on drums. (Jackson Todd had a big hand in this night and he killed it!)
After that, well, the lid of the OC Tavern was blown into space by Røbber. I will admit, I hadn’t seen as much as I’d heard, and I was blown away. These San Clemente boys know how to put on a show. And the most impressive part is that amid the manic pandemonium that embody their live set is a really tight band. I was picking up on some The Bronx meets Turbonegro (RIP Hank from Hell) in a back alley street fight vibes and loved every second.
Scroll below for a sampling of the night, but I’m pretty certain Inherent Bummer Live is something you gotta see to believe (and experience). So let’s get out the calendar and start booking. Where do you live? Tell us and we’ll start mapping it out.
Thanks to everyone who came out, let’s run it back ASAP.—Travis
