Best Sections of All-Time: Dane Reynolds in Yield

Yield was an indie rocker. In a time when brands were making blockbuster vids and Taylor Steele was still the dominant one, out came this. A movie with good surfers and a soundtrack of the times. It wasn’t Blink 182 re-hashes. It embraced the sound of the now (which was 2003). And for a beer brewer, Josh Landen the director/editor did pretty well for himself in the department. Interpol. At the Drive-In. Thursday. CKY. HIM. And then a glitch with the Foo Fighter kickoff, but luckily Snapper and Fanning kinda take it from there.

But the real show stopper of this film is Dane’s ending section. It is a punch to the throat by a grom still living with the nickname “Beaver.” He’s skinny. Frail almost. But something is about to pop that would change the following two decades of surf culture for the better — the first being that awkward Rip Curl sticker on the nose. This part must have melted it off all his boards. “Cosmonaut” is the perfect song and I think only Dane could do that song’s fury justice. Watch it below and make sure ya really feel that layback at 0:36. It’s a real hammer. For a skinny kid.—Travis Ferré
