Best Sections of All-Time: Andy Irons in Trilogy
Let us all be still for a moment and pay our respects to one of the greatest performances in cinematic history: Andy Irons in Trilogy. The Academy blew it in 2007. Forest Whitaker over this? Pshhh.
Trilogy was and is one of the best surf films of all-time, that’s pretty easy to say — and features one of the last showcases of three dominant competitors being dominant in freesurfing. So before we watch the new ode to Trilogy that is Trilogy: New Wave , we must acknowledge and celebrate the original. And since we do this sort of thing nearly every week, let’s use Best Sections of All-Time to pay our respects to AI before we get into New Wave over the next few days.
Andy surfing to Mickey Avalon is one of those perfect pairings. While both burned extremely hot and ultimately burned out, the moment they collided in this film is one that will make a person understand what a vibe AI was and forever is. He was bulletproof on a surfboard and one of the finest specimens we’ll ever have. These two segments fused together is some of the most explosive and powerful surfing put to tape.
So before we get into Griff, Ethan and Seth, let’s see what inspired the film. And let’s hope they’re up to the follow up.
Trilogy: New Wave starring Griffin Colapinto, Ethan Ewing and Seth Moniz officially releases Friday on iTunes and will theatrically release Friday.
