Best Sections of All-Time: Bruce Irons in Football Shmootball

Could you imagine being a fly on the wall inside the Volcom Pipe house during Bruce’s reign? Well, that’s what we got to be in Volcom’s Troy Eckert directed North shore classic Football Shmootball. During the winter of 2001-2002 Troy gave us a look inside the Volcom house and all the madness that ensued in and out of the water.

This masterpiece chronicled the four month season on raw and beautiful 16mm film and gave us our first glimpse of the names and faces who would become synonymous with the North Shore. We see who called the shots around the house, the parties and some of the shenanigans that came along with being part of Kaiborg’s troops.

Bruce went on a tear that year and won the HIC Pro at Pipe and then won the Pipeline Masters against king Kelly in the final. It was the heaviest thing they saw that year according to multiple sources. He was just a 22-year-old rebel and his name already had become synonymous with the world’s most infamous wave and shaped the identity of one of the most iconic surf brands.
