Best Sections of All-Time: Chris Ward in Psycho Ward

The boys at Snapping Turtle Productions (Ryan Diver and Jason Kenworthy) really made sure we kept our edge through the 90s. Tastefully I might add. The movies had solid soundtracks, edgy characters and showed the “bad kids” of surfing albeit usually on their best behavior. This hidden gem is a perfect example of this.

Chris Ward was riding Mayhems with Gotcha stickers making a name for himself on the fringes of surfing, then this came out and it was like, “Holy shit!” He was running the show in the Lost vids among a cast of other characters, but this was the first time he was the main event. Psycho Ward really shows the range he had at such a young age. Style. Flair. Charging. And willingness to go.

There are like 4 worthy sections in this film so I’ll just put the whole movie here. If you’ve never seen it, just look at how polished his style is for a grom — keep in mind he’s maybe 18-20 in this? Stylish and raw and unpredictable. Soundtrack makes ya feel good too. Enjoy Psycho Ward and put a little of this war paint on your face before the squeaky clean WSL comes to town this weekend.—Travis
