Best Sections of All-Time: Droid in Metal Neck 2: The Bangover
Some friends came by the Inherent Bummer warehouse/garage the other day and we got to talking. About lots of stuff: The Inherent Bummer Factory by the Sea; a mysto strike mission that Ian Crane and the O’Neill crew are planning to an undisclosed location; shark attacks in Australia — and finally just how sick Andrew Doheny’s section in Metal Neck 2: The Bangover was and still is today.
Luke Griffin, who you will soon know lots more about soon, said this was one of his all time favorite sections ever. His surfing is so raw but still so stylish and composed,” is how he described it.
Andrew has always had an element of surprise to his surfing and life in general. He shapes his own surfboards, plays music and attacks every section at top speed. His radical approach sets him apart in any lineup. He has a coiled up effect: calm and stylish, “not trying” then wham! He does that signature forehand explosion blow tail thing. When you really break down what Droid was doing in this era, there is next to nobody in our surfing bubble quite like him.
Matt Tromberg has a way of putting together some gems and he certainly nailed it on this on that’s featured in MetalNeck 2: The Bangover. —Brandon
