Best Sections of All-Time: Justin Matteson in Voluptuous
In the early 90s progression usually came at the expense of good style. There were a good number of surfers doing skate-inspired maneuvers who sacrificed their flow to the progression gods. They did wild stuff but it wasn’t always easy on the eyes. Part of the sacrifice. Until Justin Matteson. He was the first highly progressive surfer I ever saw who blended good style with far ahead of his time progression. Full-deck grip owes this man his due.
Today we feature what I think was the part that always stood out in Voluptuous — easily the best underground cult classic surf film made by Jason Kenworthy in the 90s. Teh whole movie is there below, but really give Justin Matteson’s part its due. The dude was so far ahead of his time we literally forget him. LEt’s not let that happen anymore. All praise Justin Matteson and this Minor Threat backed part, it’s a strong contribution to the Best Sections of All-Time.—Travis Ferré
