Best Sections of All-Time: Kalani Robb in Playground

In the mid ‘90s few things were more bulletproof than the R-Dot. Rusty had surfboards, clothes and a team that included every kind of surfing you could ask for: Todd Chesser, Taylor Knox, Pat O’Connell and Kalani Robb. Throw in “groms” CJ and Damien Hobgood and you had a pretty stellar set up for a brand.

Their video Playground from 1995 is a perfect example of the range. The vid’s aesthetic holds up today and the surfing is sick. Good music and Kalani Robb showcases his power: No one was more influential to my generation than a grommet Kalani. We hung on his every word, sticker placement and Beavis and Butthead or Calvin and Hobbs drawing. And of course we all wanted Rusty’s.—Travis
