Best Sections of All-Time: Mark Gonzales in "West Coast" by Coconut Records
My love of this song and video was recently validated by Arto Saari in a post I saw from Zoe McDougall. The video is from Coconut Records featuring Mark Gonzales skating around the Stadtisches Museum in Germany. Arto had told Zoe that it’s the best skate section of all-time. So today, we put our puffy skate shoes on and pay our respects to a skateboard part and The Gonz.
Jason Schwartzman is the actor who you will know from nearly every Wes Anderson movie and maybe less so for my favorite series he’s done Bored to Death. But he was also the frontman of Coconut Records, a band that made some great sounds in the early-mid 2000s.
This part of Mark Gonzales, which was made into a music video with Gonz’s permission is a strange and off-beat (very Gonz) demonstration of the art of skateboarding in a delicate museum and I think occasionally we need to be reminded of why we ride our boards.
This part does that and I dont need to say much more. Just watch it a few times, there’s a bunch of emotions it will evoke but the best one is the stoke of being a skateboarder. Or any board rider. However you define that is just fine, hopefully you feel it when you watch this. Aloha.—Travis Ferré
