Best Sections of All-Time: Noa Deane in Head Noise

We all know that Noa’s best part of all-time is his ender in Kai Neville’s Cluster. That doesn’t need to be debated. It set the tone for Noa’s career. It was nearly perfect. Noa was the exact blend of stylish recklessness we needed and he defined a generation. If you for some strange reason haven’t seen it, go buy Cluster here and see for yourself. And do it today.

This Head Noise part was Noa’s first part with Volcom and while it’s really damn good, I wanna say it sorta slid under the radar. There are a few key takeaways to note: The obvious being the final alley-oop at the end. Still has to be in the conversation for one of the best airs of all-time. And the there’s always some mysterious subtle element to the way he lands things that accent his style perfectly. Keep an eye on what I mean in the first 3 minutes of this vid.

The big takeaway for me though is the time he put in over in Hawaii. It’s smashed in the middle of the part, and presented in true Volcom glitch/film fashion but Noa kind of did what none of his peers at the time were doing: He stuck the stone on his nose and he bunked up at the Volcom house and he went out, packing bombs and getting tossed just as often. And in between he was doing those backhand straight airs that we honestly can’t get enough of. This was a key missing ingredient of a lot of his peers and I think it’s overlooked. Noa goes. Love watching him trot down for surfs at Pipe with Gavin Beschen, Balaram Stack, Kaimana Henry and the Volcom regulators.

Let’s revisit Head Noise today and see how it holds up. From tunes, to range, it’s definitely a hammer. Let’s give it the airwaves for the day.—Travis
