Best Sections of All-Time: Ryan Burch in Psychic Migrations

Best Sections of All-Time: Ryan Burch in Psychic Migrations

In 2015, Veeco Productions released another Ryan Thomas Volcom banger called Psychic Migrations.

Psychic Migrations takes you through the West Indies, East Indies, Australia, Polynesia, and the Americas. Filled with landscapes and all the in-between moments that you experience on a trip, the whole movie makes you feel like you went on the trip yourself. Giving you an insider’s look at all the spots. And done in that abstract slightly psychedelic fashion that Volcom has done so well for decades. (Again, thanks to Ryan Thomas and his crew).

Ryan Burch, Ozzie Wright and Nate Tyler scored on one of the trips to Chile, and it goes down as one of those watershed moments in surf filmmaking. The surfing feels like something out of a dream and it served as Ryan Burch’s coming out party. He was no longer just North County SD’s secret. Everyone wanted to surf like Burch (and still do).

Ryan Burch and his craft

Burch, Ozzie, Nate

For many years, Burch had been playing with surfboard templates old and new. Making his own equipment that allowed him to surf in a way that is very much his own. Ryan opens this section by glassing and painting a board that he then uses to rip apart the long mesmerizing walls of Chile. The speed and flow he harnessed while drawing unique lines on his hand-crafted self-shape sent his name into a new dimension.

Watch Ryan Burch fly across emerald green faces on his rainbow colored craft.
