Best Sections of All-Time: SPACE by John Florence

John John Florence and Parallel Sea don’t play the whole YouTube algorithm game. Talk to the camera, post a minimum of 3x a week, and sometimes you just have to “mail it in” to stay consistent, appeasing the algorithm gods. As much as I wish he would put something out more consistently, I appreciate John’s desire to leave a lasting impression and absolutely blow people’s minds. Every. Single. Time.

Surrounded by a team of the best camera ops and filmmakers in the biz, Maestro John John, created a film that feels as much like Planet Earth as he gets you hyped to go rip.

Pealing thunder, exploding volcanos, moody clouds rushing through the skies with bursts of lightning, crystal blue waters complete with giant schools of fish that you’re right in the middle of. The combination of it all is stunning.

The cinematography in the film is every bit as good as the action that John always showcases in West Oz and the North Shore. He does about 20 flips, gets 10 barrels that would be the wave of 99.9% of any surfers ride of their life and a couple of his patented arcs at Rockpiles (which nobody else in the world has seemed to figured out how to properly approach just yet).

Bouncing between incredible Phantom camera slow motion captures and John’s typical pedal to the metal style surfing I must say I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I’m usually not a huge fan of super slow mo, but in this case I couldn’t imagine viewing it any other way. Hats off to Erik Knutson, Chris Bryan, Blake Kueny and the team at Parallel Sea for yet another incredible masterpiece. - Brandon
