It’s not the end of the world.

For the Mini Groms

For the Mini Groms

The other day Tanner Gudauskas had Dane Reynolds on his Paradise Awareness Outreach Quarantine show (which is a daily must-do at noon each day if you haven’t watched). At some point during the interview about First Chapter they got to talking about grom surfing and how much they loved watching it. Groms have a raw enthusiasm that is hard to replicate. And while I think there are times and situations in which groms get a little ahead of themselves with the sponsors and the home-schooling (if you’re between the age of 10-16 the majority of your surfing should be purely for fun). Contests are cool for the weekend and the perfect way to gather and hang, but you should mostly be out there sending it with your friends for no good reason before and after school, outside a jersey, no matter how competitive you think you are, but that is a story for another day.

As if by design, Sunday morning I got an email from Nash Rice’s dad about this edit they made. I instantly loved the pure joy in this and his blank board. The edit is set to a song by “Ill Repute” that couldn’t be more perfect (“Clean Cut American Kid”) — which was also used in a secret video on Raw Irons (I believe) and featured grom footage of tiny Andy and Bruce Irons and nothing has hit more perfectly in history. Nash though does the song justice with this little number though. I consulted with Janice Aragon of the NSSA about Nash and she had nothing but nice things to say about him, including the fact that he just won his first Mini Grom event (congrats dude), which made me even more stoked to post this.

I love the enthusiasm. I love the purity of his style. And I love the punk energy in it. You can feel the …Lost vid influence and I think we can all agree that when we get through this modern situation, we’ll all be letting our inner grom out even more than usual. Thanks for the stoke Nash, you’re ripping. —Travis Ferré

PS: The credits are my favorite.
