Meet Jimmy Thompson: A true throwback "Core Lord"

Meet Jimmy Thompson: A true throwback "Core Lord"

Jimmy Thompson is doing what we all wish we would/could do. He’s making it feel like 1975 again.

Jimmy is 20 and grew up in South Carolina before moving to San Clemente when he was 16. He works as a lifeguard and saves his money to go on surf trips. We caught up with him during his North Shore stint recently when we saw him driving around in a $1,200 rusted beater.

His program is simple: charge Waimea and Sunset and Pipe and if someone happens to get a clip, cool — but most often he surfs waves that are hard to film so it goes undocumented. He's just here to score waves.

We linked up with him on the North Shore to check out his program and he shared some simple youthful wisdom on how to go back in time and go surfing for the sake of surfing.—Brandon Guilmette
