My Two weeks in Europe + Watch: 3POD MIX 2
I extended my Fall field trip to France an extra few days. I took some time to go decompress and culture myself with art museums, architecture and the finest paella I’ve ever experienced in Barcelona. Then I went to Portugal for a couple of days to see some friends and get some waves just outside of Lisbon. Without fail, I was met with incredible surf, amazing people and the great weather.
I decided to roll the dice one night and go to this party in Lisbon that a friend told me about. Some guys were showing a new surf flick they put together and there would be a band and beers. Sounded fun, but without knowing a single soul there I was a bit apprehensive as you could imagine.
Right as I walked into the massive art gallery space I ran into Seth Conboy who was displaying some of his art around the place. He had come to Portugal for what was supposed to be a couple days but it had extended into a few weeks. As I turned the corner to check out the band and the bowl everyone was skating out back I was handed a Sagres by a friendly stranger. Everything that was going on here was incredible. I had no idea where I was or how I had ended up here, but it felt like the exact place I was meant to be.
Just as I was leaving I saw Eithan Osborne out front and he was as surprised to see me as I was to see him. He introduced me to his buddies (3POD MIX crew) who were just getting warmed up for the night ahead. As I was walking away Nikki Van Djik, Zoe McDougall, and Macy Callaghan showed up. They were there for the contest in Ericeira, but now that that was over they accepted the invitation for a fun night before they head off to their next stop.
A couple of days later I was surfing a spot with just one friend and another local guy. The waves were cooking and I couldn’t figure out why nobody was out. After I surfed a couple hours those same guys from the other night pulled up at the beach, spilling out of their van and frothing on the fun conditions. They told me classic stories from the night I saw them and all about their new film 3POD MIX 2. I decided to grab lunch at the beach and watch them for a bit. They all rip and have sick style. Diogo and Issam just might be a couple of my new favorite surfers.
This new film is from a couple of weeks they spent in France earlier this year. Gui Martins brings you into the van with Issam, Diogo and Yael everywhere they go. Enjoy, we’re big fans of what these guys are up to.—Brandon Guilmette
