12 Songs: Mood Swing Mix Vol. 1
We realize we can’t cater to everyone with these.
If you aren’t already in a shitty mood the morning we post, say, our next volume in the “Moderate Melancholy” series, chances are we just ruined the rest of your day. Or maybe you’re landlocked and “Pre-Surf Pt. III” hits the airwaves. Our apologies if this is you.
Here’s a miscellaneous coterie of songs that should cover several bases, arranged so the darker ballad-type tunes come first, followed by a set of more upbeat rockers. Think A-side/B-side. We’ll call it the “Mood Swing Mix.” Featuring:
Sebastian Tellier. France’s best kept secret, who is somehow yet to garner a significant following in The States.
Air. Speaking of French artists, can we start the conversation on how Air’s soundtrack to The Virgin Suicides might secretly be one of the greatest albums of all time? Seriously, if you only listen to one track off this playlist, make it “Hurricane Love.”
The Clash. We’ve included an unreleased gem from the only band that matters.
Blue Cheer. “The loudest band of all time,” famously managed by a Hell’s Angel named “Gut.” Urban legend says that the recording sessions for 1968’s OutsideInside were so loud that fishermen nine miles out on the SF Bay could hear them.
Radio Birdman. Australia’s answer to Iggy and the Stooges (they literally got their name from the “1970” lyric sheet). Raw Power.
