Reel Talk: Ford Archbold
Ford Archbold comes from surf royalty. His dad Matt Archbold was built for speed and remains one of surfing’s most stylish and radical surfing legends. Archy introduced Ford to shredding of course, and Ford had a nice surf career of his own as part of the 3 Slobs project —Kyle Kennelly, Andrew Doheny and Ford’s blog of ripping, tunes and antics around Newport that was maybe only second to Marine Layer in terms of rad content in the surf blog era.
After that, Ford went on to play in several successful bands with pal Alex Knost including Tomorrow’s Tulips. He made cameos in all Metal Neck vids and films and is always coming in conversations about surfing’s raddest characters.
In all his projects, Ford’s always been someone you looked to for style, insight and creativity. And it’s his new brand Spun Spirit might be his greatest endeavor yet.
Spun Spirit takes all of Ford’s strengths and allows him to put them all together in a line of clothes that celebrates all his creative super powers at once. If you haven’t checked it or bought gear, well, it’s time. It’s the next big thing.
We caught up with Ford and made him get closer to the US Open than he’s probably been in 15 years. We plopped him on our couch and caught up on all things growing up and Spun Spirit.—Travis
