The North Shore with the Coffins
Going to Hawaii as a Californian is intimidating. Everything is bigger. More scrutinized. Heavier. And yet, two dudes who have never had a problem sending it in Hawaii are the Coffin brothers, Conner and Parker. I saw this first hand a few years ago when it was a rainy, stormy, chocolatey mess out at Pipe. Even the wind was off, but I watched both Parker and Conner enthusiastically suit up and sprint out like it was sunny and playful peaks. There excitement was due to the fact that Pipe was empty, and they were out there. Nevermind the fact that it was empty because it looked like the temple of doom — second reed roll-ins, brown, side shore, evil looking. But no one out. And they didn’t think twice.
The video below is the result of a few years of that type of enthusiasm in Hawaii: total comfort in every single type of condition. No fear and a genuine love of surfing in Hawaii. Plus the tunes are pretty throwback—Travis
