This is not a bummer
First thing’s first: Letters from Inherent Bummer are not going anywhere. In fact, they’re just getting started. But I do want to let you in on a little secret society we’re going to build in case it’s of any interest to you.
Yes, we’ve taken the bait. Inherent Bummer is going to Substack.
If your answer is, “Awesome, say no more!” Hit the link below and come check us out there. There’s no harm in subscribing. You can decide if we’re worth your beer money later. But it’s shaping up to be a pretty fun, informative spot to be.
If you enjoy your Letters from Inherent Bummer just how they are, every Friday, like this and you don’t need any more useful, entertaining reads in your life curated by an editorial professional with a phobia for self promotion and traditional advertising, but a love for the things that made magazines great, then don’t touch that dial. You don’t need to do anything — well, maybe stir yourself a drink — it’s Friday, and you know we imbibe. Your regularly scheduled Letter from Inherent Bummer will arrive shortly.
But I do encourage you to at least consider our Substack program. We have so much more to share with you. For example: I have a text exchange with Joe G of what to see in Miami that’s worth the price of admission alone.
Things like that will be part of our Substack community. It will be anecdotal. Candid. Honest. Interactive. A conversation between us at a bar top overlooking your favorite wave.
Every Monday morning you’ll get something useful: a city guide, a playlist, a recipe to try, a band to see, a product you need, a surf challenge for the week. Something to wring the goo out of the beginning of the week. A Sunday Scary antidote.
Every Wednesday you’ll get The Week in Surf Culture: What to do, see, read, watch and listen to in the days ahead.
Every Thursday you’ll get an exclusive interview with a surfer, creative or person of interest.
And Friday, well, you know the drill on Friday.
Oh, and we’ll offer all paid subscribers exclusive merch offers and discounts as well and it’s only going to grow as we get going.
Our weekly offering will be both esoteric (great airport bars, surf towns and bookstores), and useful (city guides, restaurants you need to eat at, products you need and gifts you should give) but also entertaining (road stories and interviews,) and inspirational (art, music and literature).
Always with a surf twist!
Too much of our lives are subject to algorithms and hit or miss partnerships to sustain this without you, so we’re doing something about it. It’s time we focus more on you and make your surf life better and more enriched. Chip in a few bucks and I think we can build something pretty special. After all, we built this. Consider our Substack an ADU out back full of great stories about surfing.
Come hang.—Travis Ferré
