Yago Dora in "B-Side"
I remember the first time I met Yago Dora. It was at the Denny’s outside of LAX. Yago had just flown in from Brazil with his entire beautiful family. We were taking Yago on a road trip from LA to SF (we do love a good road trip). He was relatively unknown at the time, and none of us really knew him and I’m still so thankful his family trusted us in our big creepy looking white van to make something of substance.. He was jumping in a van of strangers that included me, Dillon Perillo, Brendon Gibbens and Andrew Doheny, photographer Nate Lawrence and filmmakers Blake Myers and Michael Cukr. Yago was instantly a legend.
Humble and friendly and not even old enough at the time to have a beer, he went from a nice kid to a friend for life on that trip. He sent himself into helicopter spins at 8-foot frozen and windy Ocean Beach in San Francisco. He hung with the boys. He basically established himself as a professional who you will root for forever.
Now he’s on the world tour, he makes video parts. He responds to calls, emails, texts and trip ideas with enthusiasm. He is not jaded. He is still kind. And he is still always invited in the van.
His new part is full of psycho punts, stylish carves at the pointsbreaks and hammer backside hooks (the highlight for me), watch how he pushes his tail through the lip on his backhand!
Go Yago, always. —Travis
