"Zone Frequency" is Out Now
It horrifies me that I only just now realized this vid was out! With all the other distractions that run through our daily info-feeds, I nearly missed this jewel’s official release. And I’m here to make sure you don’t. I knew Jack and crew were making the rounds premiering it, but it is now live and I’m happy to report that I have already dropped the 10 bucks on it and am already through my first few spins and couldn't be more jazzed by it. Jack Coleman is one of our purest surf vid creators and his films come with no brand logos or promotion machines behind it, which is why it’s maybe easy to miss them, but it’s also why we need to rally up and support him because these things are an electric rainbow of surf cinema that we definitely need more of.
Now I know it’d be easy to type cast this as a H.U.M.M.U.S. HIPSTER ALT-craft affair, but when it comes to Jack and his friends, I know better than to ever do that. Upon my first viewings I’ve found anything but. I found jazz-influenced spontaneity, sick waves and interesting lines. It is anything but sleepy. The opening song is by CAN and it rips. And watching Gavin Beschen dig in on a post-pit cut to CAN is what surf vids are made for.
As someone who is always excited by airs and progressive ripping, I still find watching these creative approaches and styles that Jack’s movies embrace and celebrate always adds new dimensions to my collective surf consciousness and life. So there is really no reason to ignore this.
It’s an unsponsored art project and features some really great surfers, waves and cosmic music and filmmaking, I couldn’t recommend buying this more. It beats most everything else you’ll spend money on today. Hit play and let it take you! —Travis Ferré
