Best Sections of All-Time: Alley Oop by Jack McCoy

Best Sections of All-Time: Alley Oop by Jack McCoy

There are a few elements to this film that standout and make it an underground classic: The interviews and the early signs of Andy Irons style working out the kinks. I know this isn’t technically a section, but if you put it on you’re gonna wanna watch it all. It’s a fascinating piece of history. And it’s an interesting template Jack McCoy used. Some nearly cringy bits, but overall it sticks with you. It’s a really fun concept we should bring back…Billabong? Thoughts?

Another reason to check this: Andy on a 6’2” Mayhem with an MCD logo on the nose and a bright blue rashy in the turquoise Australian waters is enough to get the most jaded surfer out in some slop to do floaters. He’s raw, unhinged, reckless but absolutely bullet proof on the board.

Other highlights include the always fun to be around and explosiveness of Taj, Tim Curran’s helicopter spins, Chris Ward’s ahead of his time style and Sean Holmes and Mick Lowe holding their own for the power surfers. Yuri Sodre is a fun addition and has a pretty fun vibe, and Ohno Norimasa is comedic gold.

This looks like the funnest trip ever, and to think one of em wins 20k at the end is pretty sick.—Travis
