Best Sections of All-Time: Trilogy: The Mexico Part
Trilogy 22 starring Griffin Colapinto, Seth Moniz and Ethan Ewing — a follow up sequel type thing to Trilogy 1 which starred of course Taj, Andy and Park — will premiere at the Coast Film Festival in Laguna Beach this week. We thought it would be wise to brush up on the original so our compare and contrasting was up to date. Ethan, Griffin and Seth have some large shoes (HUGE!) to fill, but they’re also making their mark on surfing right now so we’re confident it will be a worthy effort. We’ll pretend we don’t mind that Griffin now rides for Quik, which makes the concept a little shaky from the jump…but.
Much like the new Trilogy film, the original Taylor Steele masterpiece was a compilation of three icons in their competitive prime, Andy Irons, Joel Parkinson and Taj Burrow traveling to the best waves in the world competing with each other for the best section, all with Billabong on the nose. “
Obviously me, Andy and Parko are going to be competing against each other to see who has the best section. I can’t wait. I hear Andy has got enough footage for three movies – that’s fine though, it just drives me more!”—Taj Burrow
Taylor Steele got three of the greatest surfers of all-time together in Europe, Morocco, Australia, Bali, Tahiti, Mexico and Hawaii. The movie is filled with everything you could expect form the trio. Joel’s buttery style, Andy’s psychotic rides in Tahiti and Taj’s West Aus tail whips. My favorite part is seeing the three of them in the near-empty slabbing Mexican sandbar. Even the Angels and Airwaves tune works flawlessly here.
Watch this and get psyched for lots of surf films this week in Laguna if you’re in town. We’ve outlined the showings for you and much more that you need to know about in Notes from the Underground. Now for some iconic surfing.—Brandon Guilmette
