Notes from Underground
We’re a little hyped up today cuz we’re charging south on I-5 to go hang and drink Red Bulls with Caity Simmers for an upcoming vid and we’re kind of fanning out. She’s one of our favorites. But before we go dive into the local scene in Oceanside with Caity, we need to relay what’s happening this week to you. What seemed like a mellow week at first has quickly become very busy. -Friday, November 10th Malibu style master Taro Watanabe has been working on a new film called Back and Forth. It’s World Premiering in his hometown of Malibu this Friday night at the Brother’s Marshal store. Click here for details, but watching Taro on the long walls of JBay is high on our list of things we love.
-Noa Deane is hosting premiers in Australia this weekend for his new movie: MASH

-Dane Reynolds, Craig Anderson and Austyn Gillete’s brand Former just dropped their new collection: “Press Press Press” and it looks really good. While you’re scoping the new line, you can check the new Austyn Gillette part “Know You My Own Way” and you’ll see that Shaun Manners is now riding for Former as well.
-Laura Enever Sets New GUINNESS WORLD RECORD for her paddle in wave last winter. Laura can now say she’s paddled into and ridden the largest wave surfed by a woman for her wave from the outer reefs last winter that officially measured 43.6 Feet . Congrats, Laura! That’s huge.
-Group Exhibit at Costa Mesa’s Westside Museum featuring art by Ben Brough, Alex Knost, Ford Archbold and more. Live music and art, Thursday November 9th.
-Our friend Vinny Vaguess is playing a bunch of shows in a bunch of good bands at The Globe Theater, Footsies in LA and Vine in Long Beach, CA (flyers below):
-The Coast Film and Music Festival is happening in Laguna Beach this weekend and includes a bunch of great surf films. There’s also a short film we helped produce with filmmaker and director Jack Boston called “A Lesson in Three Images” which talks with Surfers’ Journal Photo Editor and Photographer Grant Ellis about the importance and significance of surf photography. It will be screening Saturday evening. Here are some highlights to checkout:
