Dane Reynolds and Buell launch new wettie line
Big news making its way up and down the California coastline today: Santa Cruz’s Buell wetsuits is signing a deal with Dane Reynolds to make a signature collection of wetsuits. Both parties are quintessential California and I have to admit the unlikely pairing is quite refreshing news. Since marketing wetsuits took a slimy “techno butter” turn in recent years, it’s hard to not feel duped by flashy gimmicks, especially when you consider most wetsuits are made in the same factory. But this feels right: Ventura and Santa Cruz collaborating for a good wetsuit. Core score up.
Dane’s checklist included, “timeless style, minimal branding, premium materials, no gimmicks, no BS, just a fuckin’ good wetsuit.” The Buell ”DR1” is the result and will be available for Spring 2021. Keep an eye on surf shops and the Buell wetsuit site here.
I’m currently wearing a 3/2 Buell suit myself (my first one thanks to long-time homie and Buell rep Chad Wells) and my review is this: Thank God. A no non-sense wettie with quality materials, straight forward design and just the right amount of sarcastic indie funk baked into the seams. I’m all in.—Travis
