Friday Night Flicks: A Band Called Death

Friday Night Flicks: A Band Called Death

Death came and went swiftly.

As far as punk rock was concerned, the Hackney brothers didn’t really have any reference points when they decided to form a band in 1971. The Sex Pistols’ first record wouldn’t come out until six years later, by which point Death had already disbanded. They were the first all-black punk band, but - depending on who you ask - they might’ve just been the first punk band in general.

Not that any of this matters, though. Dates and numbers aside, Never Mind The Bollocks couldn’t hold a candle to Death’s first and only record, For The Whole World To See. I truly believe that “Keep on Knocking” might be the greatest album opener in the history of punk.

Interesting, no? Learn the rest of their story here. Wear headphones, max out your sound bar, do what you need to do. Just keep that tissue box close; It’s a bit of a tearjerker.  —Jackson Todd
