It’s not the end of the world.

John John scored "The Day Before Yesterday"

John John scored "The Day Before Yesterday"

As I did my obligatory morning doom-scroll, I stumbled across a few of my favorites all posting their “made it to Hawaii” reels. Griffin Colapinto dropped a few hammers from his first surf of the season on the North Shore. Barron Mamiya free-fell into a steezy pig dog to no-grab pit. Makana Pang got back on the board after a broken femur, and hasn’t missed a beat.

That being said, this morning officially marked the beginning of the North Shore Season in Hawaii for two reasons:

First: After a few days of lackluster surf and uncertainty, the Haleiwa Pro was finally called on in near-perfect conditions today.

Second: and perhaps more importantly: John Florence and co. blessed us with their latest edit from last weekend. While you were just beginning to exit your post-turkey day food coma and preparing to re-enter the realm of the living, John, Ivan, and a few comrades were on what was likely their umpteenth epic session of the weekend, scoring a few slightly wonky yet seemingly empty gems with the footage to prove it. The boys really know how to get us fired up — we’re on our way now. —Brandon
