Best Sections of All-Time: Kalani Robb in Good Times

In 1993, shortly after releasing Focus and Momentum I and II, Taylor Steele blessed us with the feel good hit of the 90s: Good Times.

Kelly Slater may have stolen the ending section (again), real fans know this film was Kalani Robb’s coming out party. Riding his infamous “K” boards emblazoned with a hand-done Kellog’s cereal logo on his Rusty’s, Kalani surfed flashy and quick with tons of spring and pop. In the introduction of the film, his flawless full-rotation no grab air reverse at Rocky Point sent shockwaves through the surf world.

Kalani went through a few different phases in his surfing career, this one was easily a favorite. He wore Beavis and Butthead T-shirts surfing, painted Calvin and Hobbes cartoons on his boards, dated the Hawaiian princess Malia Jones, and did wicked punts at Rockies on the reg.

The intro to his part has his good pal Rob Machado throw his shoe halfway down the block. This was Good Times…all those bts moments that have you recounting and copying for weeks. Taylor brought us into their circle and we got a first hand look at what these guys personalities were really like.

Good Times solidified the Momentum Generation’s reign and Kalani’s part has us looking at the lefts at Rocky Point differently. Give it a watch, and enjoy some vintage Blink 182 while you’re at it. —Brandon
