NOTES FROM UNDERGROUND

NOTES FROM UNDERGROUND

We gotta be honest: Due to the that fact that some of us still have trauma from former corporate employers: We hate Mondays. The Sisyphean task that is getting through the first day of the week in the 4HL can be downright ominous. With the pull of the weekend so far away, we decided you need something light to start the week. How about a list of all the good/interesting things happening?

Every Monday at lunchtime, we’ll send you a guide to the week ahead. Like a sandwich of cool things happening that we’re checking out. News, surf events, new music releases, shows in town (we’ll start in So-Cal but we’ll eventually expand outward), art to see, links to read, important info and fun to be had —  a quick run through of where we might be and ways for you to live your week with a little more style, grace and thrash. Here’s a look at the week ahead.—Travis Ferré

Here we go, the week of October 23 - October 30th:

-The lineup for the 2024 WSL Championship Tour is set and it includes six Californians, four Aussies, two Hawaiians, two Brazilians and one Portuguese surfer. Click here to see the full list (here for Women)— which doesn’t include Mateus Hardy or Jackson Baker who just missed the cut.

-Our friends at Ola Canvas are hosting a pop up at SeaVees in Newport Beach. The pop us will be there until November 13th but kicks off with a welcome party this Saturday from 3-7pm. (details on the flyer below).

-Kolohe Andino announced the premiere tour for the new Two Percent film Smooch, kicking off with the World Premiere Wednesday night at the Stance HQ in San Clemente, CA.

-We’re booked and psyching for Levitation Fest this week. We’re compiling a list of the shows we want to attend. The 4-Day Levitation Festival in Austin, Texas features an insane lineup (see below). We’ll be broadcasting/blogging live all weekend thanks to Weird Tea.

-For all you techy/crypto kids who might be in Europe this week, Urbit Assembly kicks off Saturday in Lisbon, Portugal with a wide range of speakers discussing the future of the Internet — or lack thereof. Believe it or not, we’ll be there too. Or at least eating and drinking nearby.

-Hurley is hosting a party to celebrate their new qualifiers (Jake Marshal, Kade Matson and Eli Hanneman) tomorrow night at the Salty Bear in Costa Mesa, CA if you wanna imbibe with the new kids on the Championship Tour.

-The Paranoyds are releasing a brand new EP Friday (28th) called “I Like It Here” and will celebrate by moonlighting as The Offspring for Halloween Saturday Night (29th) at Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles. They’ll be joined by Together Pangea who will play as Nirvana and Sad Park who will play as Weezer.

-This Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Nick Cave plays a career-spanning set at the Orpheum Theater, accompanied by Radiohead’s Colin Greenway on bass.

-Interpol is playing at The Sound in Del Mar, CA Wednesday and Thursday before two nights at The Greek Sunday and Monday night.

-Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas in Concert starring Danny Elfman will be at The Hollywood Bowl Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
