Tanner Gudauskas’ Paradise Awareness Outreach
Tanner Gudauskas is an enthusiasm man. Each morning he wakes up early with a steaming cup of coffee, heads into his garage and hits play on a classic surf film. He has an old VHS/TV combo and the vibes flow. Coffee and vintage surf vids fuel the enthusiasm man. Call it nostalgia, call it education, but it works, and it’s what motivates him to create and I can totally relate. We’re all trying to bottle those feelings and reimagine them, or inspire the next generation, or stay up in these strange times.
So Tanner has a plan, and you’re invited to watch with him the next few weeks via an experimental streaming feed.
“I will be live-streaming on some janky website I just created to do this,” Tanner said via his Instagram. “It will only be live because there are pieces of culture that are too special to be uloaded. I’d like to respect the people who made them and surfed in them by keeping it that way. Imagine you just came over to my garage to watch with me, but you can’t because of Covid-19, so this is second best.”
The website he created is here, and a new vid will loop starting at noon PST each day this week: www.TheParadiseAwarenessOutreach.com
To support and check out his experiment, head over to the site at noon today (PST) and take in some classic surf cinema. He’s kicking it off with back to back days of Searching for Tom Curren and The Occumentary and is working on calling up surfers and filmmakers involved.
In a time when giant corporations are falling and failing and crashing and we’re all nervous about the big crash and burn, it’s nice to see some glimmers of hope and creativity. Head over and check it out and expect glitches and some insane nostalgia coming at you.—Travis Ferré
